Honda reopens Swindon factory

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Thousands of workers at Honda’s Swindon factory have returned to work after the troubles of the car industry forced its closure four months ago. All 3,400 of the returning workers will be taking a pay cut until 2010 but are pleased that their jobs are finally guaranteed after spending the last four months worrying about the possibilities.

The factory was forced to close while the company decided on the best way of dealing with the problems caused by the global recession and the effect the economic downturn has had on the number of car sales and contract hire agreements. The motoring industry has been hit hardest of all and almost all car manufacturers are having difficulty staying afloat, but Honda’s experience could serve as a good example to the other brands still hanging in the balance. Their decision to temporarily close the Swindon factory has allowed them time to make important decisions about the future of the business as well as perform long-planned maintenance work. During the four months downtime the production lines were stripped down and rebuilt, and the entire plant was redecorated, wherever possible using existing employees with the relevant specialist skills or training.

Thousands of jobs in the UK are under threat over the recent collapse of American car manufacturing giant General Motors (GM). The company has filed for bankruptcy in the US, causing uncertainty for all its workers about their future with the company. GM Europe, which consists of UK brand Vauxhall and the German Opel, has been bought out by Canadian car parts company Magna International.  But although this means that both the British and German brands will continue production, a fall in demand for car sales and car leasing deals could mean that Magna will be making significant job cuts.

Why Are There So Many Nice Cars on the Road?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

While I was driving to work the other day I got stuck in a traffic queue on the motor way, it was quite a lengthy one and I did begin to get slightly bored. After a while I looked over to the other side of the carriageway, to my amazement for at least 20 minutes every vehicle that went pass was so nice. There I literally was in my car that was falling to bits whilst everyone else was driving their own brand new motors. I mean where to they find the resources?

Why Dont You Just Lease or Share a Car?

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

More and more vehicles are hitting our roads every day, there are so many cars around that we just do not know how to rid of them. The government are even getting concerned because they have stated that they will be offering a huge amount of money for people with vehicles that are older than 9 years old.

But the problem still is around that folk cannot afford to buy new cars because the cost is just too high, besides that there are also servicing costs, tax and MOT to consider into the equation. The vehicle selling sector is slowly collapsing, but there are two sectors which do seem to be flourishing and they are vehicle leasing and vehicle sharing programs.

Why Buy a New Car When You can Lease

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

In this day and age cars are a necessity in everyone’s life, if you are relying on public transport then you should expect being late to anywhere you go. People these days want to have extravagant cars to drive around in and they end up causing a fortune.

But is it truly worth purchasing a new car these days? Let as have a look at why I just do not like this.
1.) Newer models of vehicles have been made not to last, so that after a few years you will need to go out and buy a new one.
2.) Even if a car was built to last in this day and age people just travel so much and they would probably do 100k miles in 3 years or less.
3.) Parts for your vehicle that will set you back alot.
