The New 2009 Hybrid Escalade is Cool
The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is the only SUV vehicle in its class that offers a way to get green without sacrificing quality and luxury. The Escalade Hybrid seats up to 8 people. It is the only full luxxury SUV with a two mode hybrid system on the market. The Escalade Hybrid recieves about 50% better fuel economy, in city driving, than other conventional models and gets 40% increase in fuel economy overall.
The Cadillac Escalade’s two-mode hybrid system combines GM’s Vortec 6.0 liter V-8 engine with Cadillac’s new Auto Trans. There are four driving gears within the EVT transmission which is helped by two electric motors.Due to GM’s Active Fuel Management System in the V8, four cylinders shut down in light load conditions to conserve fuel.The gasoline engine shuts off at stops or when idoling but restarts when needed, while the electric motor allows the engine to run in a 4 cylider mode more often.
With light throttle, the electric motors can propel the New Cadillac Escalade up to 30 mph, but together the electric motor and gasoline engine produce 332 hp and 367lb.ft. of torque. A 300 volt battery pack is located under the second row seats and powers the electric motors, as well as the electric power steering system and electrically driven air conditioning compressor; regenerative braking will charge the batteries. The Hybrid comes available in either front of all wheel drive.Although it would be awesome to have the hybrid powertrain in all trims of the Escalade, it only comes available in the standard length.
As far as towing capability, the new Cadillac Escalade will be rated to tow up to 6000 pounds with rear wheel drive and 5700 pounds with all wheel drive.The Escalade Hybrid comes equipped with and eight inch touch screen showcasing a hybrid drive system, allowing the driver to see which mode the SUV is functioning in. The Hybrid comes with an economy guage, which has green and red bars to represent which zones drivers should drive in to get the best mpg.The TACH in the Hybrid also includes and Auto Stop indicater, letting the driver know when the motor is shut off.
